While steel processing is at the core of what we do at Worthington Steel, the value and dedication we bring to customer relationships extends beyond the coil.
One of our customers was facing high capital costs and limited floor space tied up in slow-turn inventory. Their growth was constrained by a lack of space for higher-demand products, resulting in excess working capital. That’s when our team stepped in with long-term solutions designed to unlock efficiency and drive results.
The team – consisting of Worthington Steel employees in sales, scheduling and supply chain – began with a comprehensive assessment of the customer’s operations. In doing this, they identified two areas of focus.
They started by creating an ordering system for the customer that gives us a signal when inventory reaches a specified level. The notification allows us to automatically reorder the steel needed at the right time to prevent inventory shortages. In addition, we also put safety stock guidelines in place for the steel they require, ensuring its availability as the customer’s demand varied.
This is how we deliver on our vision to be the most trusted, innovative and value-added metals processing partner. Together with our customer, we used a lean event to optimize their value stream and achieve meaningful results in just one month."
Supply chain isn’t only about moving material. It’s about creating visibility, reducing waste and enabling smarter decisions. By designing replenishment systems with built-in signals and safety stock, we help customers free up capital and floor space so they can focus on growing their businesses. That’s the kind of long-term value we aim to deliver in every partnership."
