Green Star in Action: Air, Energy, Water and Waste

We’re proud of the sustainability improvements our facilities made across air, energy, water and waste streams. For more than a decade, our Green Star initiative has been a catalyst for environmental improvements across Worthington Steel. Facilities earn stars for year-over-year progress in water, energy and waste reduction. In fiscal 2025, 90% of our manufacturing facilities earned four-or five-star ratings.

Over the last fiscal year, our facilities have:

  • Purchased renewable electricity at facilities producing electrical steel laminations, reducing emissions by more than 3,500 metric tons (MT) of CO2e.
    • Scope 1 and 2 emissions were reduced by 4,527 MT across our global operations.
  • Identified nearly 70 projects that are projected to save over 5 million kWh annually once complete. 47 projects have been finished to date.
  • Implemented 52 water-related projects with an estimated annual savings of more than 1 million gallons once complete.
  • Recycled more than 400,000 tons of scrap steel and more than 60,000 tons of spent pickle liquor – increases of 22% and 5%, respectively, from the prior year.

Strong Investments for a Decarbonized Future

Beyond stewardship and conservation in our facilities, Worthington Steel supports the decarbonization of transportation and the broader clean energy transition through our operations.

Investments for Growth in Fiscal 2025:

  • Expanding electrical steel capabilities in Mexico and Canada, with five new presses for manufacturing traction motor laminations and a transformer core facility expansion, respectively.
  • Announcing plans to acquire a controlling interest in Sitem Group, a European manufacturer of electrical steel laminations and motor die castings, expanding our global reach in electrification.
  • Installing and successfully testing a new line for patented ablation technology, supporting the production of hot-formed tailored blanks through TWB Company, our joint venture.
  • Supplying approximately 35,000 tons of steel for solar applications, reinforcing our role in clean energy infrastructure.
