Worthington Industries is an industry leader in safety management and injury prevention. Our goal is zero - zero accidents and injuries, 365 days a year. Our employees have proven that our company-wide safety goals of Zero DART (Days Away Restricted or Transferred) and Zero Recordables are attainable. And through the SafeWorks program—founded in our employee-driven BRITE behavior-based process and our internal safety awards program—employees are developing safe work habits and being rewarded for making safety a priority with that goal of zero in mind.

ZERO IS POSSIBLE

Our safety record is almost unheard of in the steel industry and we’ve got the numbers to prove it. In our fiscal year 2009, Worthington Steel’s DART rate was 82% lower and Recordables were 61% lower than industry average.

Five of Worthington Steel’s operations achieved zero DART and zero Recordables over the entire year, a total of over 1.4 million man-hours worked accident-free. Four of Worthington Steel’s operations achieved zero DART for the year. It goes to show, when safety is a priority, zero is possible.

All Worthington Steel facilities are certified to the ISO 14000 environmental management standard and the OHSAS 18001 health and safety management standard.
