CONFIGURED BLANKING
Steel Coil-Fed Blanking Lines for Efficiency and Optimum Material Utilization

Configured blanking is the process of creating a flat, geometric shape, or blank, by feeding a coil into a press and die. The die utilizes tool steel made to the required shape to cut the part to exact dimensions. Our blanking lines are coil-fed so that we can run at efficient speeds and also to produce multiple blanks per cycle of the press. Configured blanking is usually the first step in producing a finished part by our customers.

Our customers realize a number of advantages when using configured blanks versus coil:

• Material savings due to nesting in multiple-out dies
• Lower inventory costs, better inventory control, and better JIT management
• Increased productivity by eliminating coil changes
• Process scrap reduced, also allowing for increased productivity
• Presses currently used for blanking become available for other production
• Floor space required for scrap handling equipment minimized
• Quality control increased with the improved ability to inspect blanks
• Overall freight costs reduced due to shipping net/usable versus gross weight
